Syracuse’s own barbershop chorus, which is comprised of over forty men from all walks of life who love to sing and through their singing give back to their community. The Harmony Katz are men of good character (and most, upon getting to know them, are REAL Characters) who believe that singing enriches a man’s life, that of his family and the community in which he resides. The Harmony Katz are a fraternal organization, a brotherhood of barbershoppers joined together in four-part harmony, that have pledged to use their special gift of 4-part harmony to do good in our community. Our service project "We Sing to Feed Them All" is in support of the Food Bank of Central New York and local Food Pantries dedicated to ensuring that no one goes helped raise awareness of the hunger that afflicts our neighbors here in Onondaga County. The Harmony Katz support many other groups with their unique gift of barbershop harmony. Our vision is quite simple:
“Make Life Better Singing Barbershop Music”
1. “Promote fellowship and friendship among people of good character”
2. “Perpetuate, celebrate and preserve harmony in the barbershop style”
3. “Provide the opportunity to experience the joy of 4-part Barbershop singing”.
4. “Sustains music in the lives of people in our community”
5. “Service to others through our Music”
We aspire “to be an ever growing singing organization that is dedicated to the average singer having fun creating and preserving extraordinary music in the barbershop style, an organization that is known in our community for making a difference singing.” A Musical Family in which everyone is encouraged on their own personal musical journey to be the best they can be. A Place where average individual voices collectively make above average music that is special and rewarding for both listener and singer.
The Harmony Katz meet on Monday evenings 6:30 - 9:00 pm at the Ginger Bread House 3004 Court Street, Lyncourt
Your weekly Musical Guide (Director) is Mr. Pete Carentz who founded this group with Norm Manor in 1997. His knowledge and passion for our music will encourage and inspire you to perform beyond what you believed possible. You’ll learn so much about your voice, vocal techniques, how to sing in an ensemble and along your musical journey you’ll create lifelong friendships with some of the most amazing people.
